Curriculum Policy |
It is the policy of the Board of Governors of Edenderry Primary School that all pupils will receive their full entitlement of the Northern Ireland Curriculm as set out in the Education Reform Order (1989) N.I. Thus the school will provide a broad and balanced curriculum which aims to : - promote the spiritual, moral, cultural and intellectual development of each child; - prepare each pupil for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. |
The school provides worthwhile experiences in all of the areas of study of the N.I. Curriculum which are: English Mathematics Science and Technology The Environment and Society Creative and Expressive Studies |
In addition an agreed syllabus for Religious Education will be followed by all pupils, except those parents who request otherwise. |
As well as the four cross curricular themes: Information Technology Health Education Cultrual Heritage Education for Mutual Understanding |
Delivery of the Curriculum Teaching will reflect a variety of styles and will be presented to meet the needs of individual pupils, groups of pupils and the class as a whole as appropriate. Teachers will take account the needs of lower attaining and more able children and will ensure that effective programmes of work and support arrangements are in place. Currently we employ a Support Teacher who provides regular additional help in English and mathematics. The extent of the additional help depends on the child's difficulties which are closely monitored using the guidelines of the Special Needs Code of Practice. |
Learning Support Centres Edenderry Primary School also caters for children who have statements of Special Educational Needs in two well established Learning Support Centres. In addition it also has a Centre for children with disorders in the Autistic Spectrum. |
