Uniform and Homework Surveys

13th Jan 2025

In November, we had a remarkable parental response to surveys regarding the Edenderry school uniform and our approaches to homework. It was clear from the responses that  there is a significant range of views.  Consequently, it has taken some time to establish the facts and views presented.  We have now discussed both surveys with the teaching staff and the school council and the outcome of both is available to read below.

The Uniform Survey was reasonably straightforward with the vast majority of parents responding in a similar way.  This meant that collating the information and decision-making was not overly complicated.

In contrast, however, the parental survey and the school council responses regarding Edenderry Primary School homeworks, highlight a very wide range of views.  The range is as wide as some people feeling that we do far too much homework and there is too much emphasis placed on homework to others who feel that we do not provide enough.  Therefore, it is immediately clear that we will not reach conclusions that everyone agrees with.

Both of these surveys will now lead to a change in policy and approach, and we fully appreciate that not all change is welcomed by everyone.  It is important to note, however, that these changes will occur primarily in response to parental and pupil opinion.  Therefore, we encourage you to carefully read these documents, which detailing the survey responses and subsequent decision-making.  Please also be patient with the school as we plan for, and then deliver fully on the changes explained.
