Apologies Ms McClelland (Choir)

We again met in P7AM to allow the council to continue to feedback their responses to the school’s pupil view survey and record all online, using our interactive whiteboard.

Again our pupils had worked really hard both themselves as councillors and as classes all returning with lots to offer. We worked at a fast pace but all was really effectively gathered – as councillors were keen to offer their classes’ views.

We started by revisiting what we had been working on and it was explained we would try to bring all our key findings together to create a report for the whole school’s council wards (P4-7). This would then shared this with Mr Blevins, so he could continue to see a picture/overview evolve of how the pupils felt and the things they would like to see done.

The pupils took it in turn looking at each question and offering up the report findings from their respective classes.

The council worked solidly for 20 minutes recording the key findings of the first two questions of the pupil survey. It was noted we started late due to some councillors again forgetting to attend, despite Councillor Overend going around to remind all.

We reported on;

Do teachers praise you when you do well?

Do teachers help you when you are stuck?

What could teachers do to help you more?

Are you doing well at school?

How do you know?

Do you get good feedback?

How could the school do this better?

Do teachers treat pupils fairly?

How do you know?

Why do you say that?

What could we do to make things fairer?

Every councillor again offered lots of ideas – all those reflecting the responses of their classes. There was even more evidence this time from councillors, they exhausted every question with an abundance of answers and suggestions.

It was noted there was not only quantity of answers and ideas, but clear quality of thoughts and these were all generally very positive and where needed, constructive in things they wished to see change.

At 12.35 the meeting was concluded to be resumed next Tuesday at 12.10 DV. The last meeting of the term.

The agenda will be to aim to conclude work on delivering an understanding of the feelings and initial hopes of the pupils in P4-7, found via the pupil survey.

The report itself is growing in stature and makes for very interesting and guiding reading for the whole school community – clearly steering our future paths.

Many thanks to all the hard work of our councillors who give up their time and efforts to represent the and be the voice of our pupils.
