Key Worker Vunerable Children Support January 2021

4th Jan 2021

Following the announcement by the DE  that the start of term has been deferred from the 11th January 2021 to February halfterm in school support for children belonging to the Vunerable category as defined by the DE and children of key workers will begin on Thursday 7th January. Key Worker support is available for  children for whom one parent is a key worker. We would ask that this option be used as a last resort. As a school we feel the safest place for children at the moment is at home in the company of parents or members of the family.

The latest guidance issued with regard to lockdown closures presents schools and teachers with the challenge of simultaneously dealing with leading the online learning  for the vast majority of their classes whilst offering in school support to pupils falling into the groups mentioned. In order to allow teachers supervising pupils to attend to their online class duties a review of the school day for the lockdown period has been undertaken.  This streamlined day will include a rolling break time, a greatly reduced lunchtime and adjusted starting and finishing times.

During the school closure period the start and finish times will be as follows until further notice:

P1 - P3. 8:55am to 1:40pm

P4 - P7. 8:55am to 2:30pm

School meals will not be available during the lunch break from noon to 12:40pm. All children should bring their own break snack and a pack lunch .

Pupils should be delivered to and collected from the Main Entrance.

Please note that the small number of pupils attending will be grouped into composite class bubbles comprising of 3/4 year groups and  that the class bubbles will be supervised by a rota of teachers and assistants. This will mean that the pupils will not be engaged in face to face teaching with their class teachers but will be supervised by teachers as they engage in generic activities supplied for their year and engage in some online learning with their class.

If you wish to avail of the in school support please email Mrs Winton at awinton528@c2kni.net . Please supply your child’s name, class details, your job title and the key worker category you fall into as well as TWO current additional contact numbers for use in the case of an emergency. The named contacts which should number three including yourself should be available to collect your son or daughter promptly should they feel unwell. You will receive a proforma from school which will allow you to indicate the days your child will need support.
